This week, Tom Hughes, GembaDocs CEO, is in Gordonville Pennsylvania, USA, speaking and coaching over 80 landscaping and hardscaping businesses at the Outdoor Living Mastery event. But this isn’t just any industry conference – it’s an immersive, hands-on learning experience with a difference – attendees are building a facility for a community center, making an impact while sharpening their skills.
What is Outdoor Living Mastery?
Outdoor Living Mastery is a unique event that blends on-the-job training with classroom learning. Delegates don’t just sit through lectures – they roll up their sleeves and put their skills to work in real-world projects, gaining practical experience alongside expert coaching.
This week-long event is designed to elevate industry professionals by equipping them with both technical skills and the process-driven mindset needed to improve efficiency and quality in their businesses.
A community build that makes an impact
One of the highlights of this year’s Outdoor Living Mastery event is the community build project. Attendees are collaborating to construct a new facility for the Community Care Center in Gordonville. This project will provide much-needed space and resources to support children with disabilities, helping the center expand its reach and impact.
By working together on a real project, delegates experience the power of their new learning through teamwork, planning, and execution – all while making a tangible difference in the local community. It’s a perfect example of how craftsmanship and purpose can come together to create something truly meaningful.
Lean thinking in action – Tom’s ‘bit’
Tom was delighted to share insights on processes, continuous improvement, and the power of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with attendees with a seminar on day 2.
Through discussions on Lean principles, processes, and continuous improvement, he’s helping participants think differently about how they manage their businesses, training and workflows.
And the learning doesn’t stop there. Tom is also taking the opportunity to visit a few GembaDocs customers in the area, exploring firsthand how lean and GembaDocs methodologies are being applied in real-world settings that we can bring to the GembaDocs community.
